Jett Ilagan (b.1991) is a Multimedia Artist based in Manila, Philippines. His works explore sonic repercussions caused by socio-political agencies within his local context and the idea of “cultural soundscapes” through various methods such as field recordings, psychogeography, and personal encounters with the subject environment and its locals.
He investigates spatial soundscape intending to encourage people to question and reflect on their relationship with the environment in this period, during which human activities have dominated rural & urban ecology and generative spaces.
For the past years, he has performed, conducted art projects, and participated in artist residencies in the USA, Germany, Malaysia, Japan, and Vietnam. He is part of BuwanBuwan Collective, a Manila-based netlabel dedicated to unearthing substantial electronic art forms. He is a co-founder of PsWs, an independent artist-run initiative based in the province of Laguna.

On Extended Asia, 2022 – Vol. 3: Discovery, Jett Ilagan (@escuri_ph) produced the work entitled ‘k a l a w a k a n,’ an audio-visual project inspired by the ever-growing landscape of possible discoveries that happen due to cosmic inflation. Here, visuals of 3d mesh interact, expand, & contract with the grains of sonic frequencies & silence, emphasizing the auditory and visual space within the piece.
Kalawakan is a Filipino term for the galaxy, and this Tagalog term is also synonymous with vastness, expanse, or space.
